    Research Placements

Leeds University Business School (LUBS) has been successful in securing four applied research based summer placements with Marks & Spencer, as part of the University's strategic partnership with the business.

The four LUBS undergraduates will be participating in month-long research based placements, of which three are to be based at M&S Head Office in London, and one at the M&S Michael Marks Building on the University of Leeds campus, home of the M&S Company Archive.

The successful candidates are: Marcus Johnson, 2 Year BSc (Hons) Economics and Management; Matthew Hurst, Finalist BA Management (International); Rowan Howard, 3rd Year BSc Economics and Management and Kelly Wood, 1st Year BA Management with Marketing Student. The focus of the research placements will be in the key business areas of finance, governance, property planning and marketing. Each student will be mentored by a Business School tutor and project teams at M&S. Employability Officer at the Business School, Dr Joanne Dickinson said, "There was a very high level of competition for these four placements. In total, we received over 80 high quality applications. We will be keeping in touch with the recruits to understand what they take from the experience and how it has helped in their personal and professional development."

Julia Clarke, Pro Dean for Student Education at Leeds University Business School said, "I am delighted that through the University's strategic partnership with M&S we have been able to create such an excellent summer placement scheme for our students. A unique aspect of the initiative is the way in which students, academic tutors and M&S staff will jointly contribute to these in-company research projects - an excellent example of the Leeds research-based education in practice. And I look forward to hearing about the outcomes at the students' presentations later this summer."

Alison Houston, Head of the Archive and University of Leeds Partnership said, "We're delighted to be able to offer these placements to some of the top students at the University of Leeds. These placements offer us the chance to support the development of top talent at Leeds whilst also giving us the opportunity to harness their expertise in our business."
