Fashioning Memories at Leeds City Museum
We were proud to be part of a dementia-friendly fashion show held at Leeds City Museum in November. Older people from across Leeds gathered in the beautiful Brodrick Hall for a fabulous fashion show featuring outfits from past decades. Our vintage cinema adverts were back on the big screen for one day only, and visitors shared their memories of fashion gone by as artists from Artlink created an installation inspired by peoples’ reminiscences.
One in three people in the UK over 65 will develop dementia, and over 800,000 people in the UK are currently living with dementia. There is evidence that reminiscence therapy using objects and images to recall memories and stimulate conversation can improve mood, wellbeing and memory in people with dementia.
